OziExplorerCE will run on the Asus 632 and Asus 636.

Configuring OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)

Select the Communication Port port from the drop down list. The drop-down list shows the actual ports which the PDA has installed and a description of each port is shown.

  • Communication Port - COM 5 should be the port to use

  • Baud Rate - set to 4800

  • Sentence - GPRMC

  • GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84

  • Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)

  • Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect. If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.

Note - The Asus models do not output position data on any of the external ports therefore it is not possible to connect the them to a PC and use it for moving map (real time tracking).

Configuring the Asus 636 for several programs to run at the same time.

Windows Mobile 5 has the option to configure the system so that two programs can receive the sentences from the GPS at the same time.

Click "Start" / "Settings" / "System Tab". On the System page click "GPS". Configure the following -

  • On the GPS Settings "Programs" tab, set the "GPS program port" to COM9.

  • On the GPS Settings "Hardware" tab, set the "GPS hardware port" to COM5 and "Baud rate" to 4800.

  • On the GPS Settings "Access" tab, tick "Manage GPS Automatically"

  • Click "ok"

All programs must be configured to use COM9 as the GPS communication port. All other OziExplorerCE settings will as shown above.
